Annual Meeting Recap

The Annual Meeting of the VRA was held on November 7, 2009 at the Kellogg-Hubbard Library in Montpelier, VT. It was a great turn out, there were over 30 people in attendance at this years meeting. We began with a few words from Kelly about the year past and new items on the agenda.

A plaque was presented to Kelly with a specially engraved message of gratitude and thanks, from the members of the VRA, for her dedication and commitment over the last 3years as our President. She also received a gift certificate to a local restaurant in her town.

Theresa Vezina began her term as the President of the VRA. Questions and comments were encouraged from the floor.
The Treasurer's Report was given by Kelly. We have $3819.49 in our account. Expenditures include copying, stamps, website and the annual meeting costs. As always we had our Potluck lunch followed by a raffle with prizes being won by many of our new members Thank you to everyone who donated gifts.

NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT ON REIKI
Dr. Oz highlights energy healing, as practice grows in popularity in Vermont.

The Dr. Oz Show, a nationally syndicated television program, that airs locally on Fox 44, highlighted Reiki on a recent episode. “So many of the ailments that we suffer from can be treated through energy therapies, which will become much more prevalent over the next few years,” says Dr. Oz, a world renowned heart surgeon. “We are embarking on this whole new vista of opportunities and it broadens dramatically the spectrum of where we might be able to go in our bodies and this is the area of energy medicine.” Dr. Oz acknowledged that his wife is a Reiki Master. The couple uses Reiki on their children and in the operating room.

What Do You Think??

1. Do you think a person who has completed Reiki I, should be listed on the “Locate A Practitioner” page, as a Practitioner or a Student?

2. Would you partake in a program that would allow you to offer CEU's (Continued Education Units) to your nursing students?

Your opinion matters. Please email your thoughts on these subjects to: info@vermontreikiassociation.org

Calling All Leaders!!!

It is a commitment on your part, but much of the work can be done from home and via teleconferencing. More information about the Duties and Responsibilities of the Board of Directors is available upon request.
If you are someone who has the energy and passion for this job or you know someone you think would be great, please contact Theresa at 802-525-4548 or email info@vermontreikiassociation.org
All nominations will be reviewed by the Nomination Committee and selections will be presented to the current Board for review.

Reiki Clinics For Haiti

The VRA is sponsoring Reiki clinics to benefit children in Haiti in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake. On February 20th, Sukada Repass is organizing a clinic from 1pm – 4pm at River Arts, 74 Pleasant Street, Morrisville; Kelly McDermott-Burns is organizing a clinic from 11 am- 4pm at the Rochester Yoga Studio, Cushman Bldg, Main St, Rochester; and Franklin Goodkin is organizing a clinic from 11am- 4pm at Pyramid Holistic Wellness Center, 120 Merchants Row, Rutland.

Thirty-minute sessions will be given in exchange for donations to UNICEF’s efforts in helping the children of Haiti. UNICEF donations are tax deductible and 100% of all donations go to Haiti, no administrative fees are deducted. On March 20 Theresa Vezina will be organizing a Haiti Relief clinic from 1pm- 3pm at The Wellness Center in Newport, with proceeds benefiting the Vermont Haiti Project (VHP). One of the top executives of the organization is Donna

Reiki Clinics For Haiti Cont.

Thomas, a member of the VRA. Similar to UNICEF,
100% of the funds will go directly to Haiti, VHP has no paid staff and all volunteers
pay their own expenses. If you would like to learn more about the Vermont Haiti Project go to www.vermonthaitiproject.org To volunteer at one of the
clinics, contact the organizer or just show up. This is a wonderful way to bring Usui’s
precept of compassion into your life, help children in need, and provide a Reiki experience to thank people for donating to a worthy cause. Hopefully, these are only the first of many Reiki clinics to benefit Haiti as well as other deserving causes. By Franklin Goodkin

Coming Soon!!!
We know how important it is that we stay connected to one another and have an open forum for the exchange of ideas and thoughts about Reiki. In an effort to keep the lines of communication open a new feature is being added to the VRA Website. Soon we will have a Blog available to all members.
