Message From The President
Dear Members, Volunteering is such a major part of Reiki. The selfless giving of love and compassionate action is the foundation of this healing modality. The members of the VRA are selflessly doing their best to share the benefits of Reiki as directed by Dr. Usui. “Be still and know that I am”. I was reminded of that statement recently when working on a resident of a local nursing home. She was surprised by how still I was while giving her Reiki. Reiki has become my meditation time, a time to make conscious contact with that power greater than myself. A chance to plug into the universe, often suddenly and without preparation. Each day I sit before my altar to meditate. I say my prayers, connect to the universe, do some Reiki, and then go on with my day. It’s my routine. Often times I am rushed. Giving Reiki then becomes a chance to deepen my connection, whether planned or impromptu. The unscheduled sessions are a gift: the opportunity to slow down, to remember to feel the presence of my guides around me.
I am reminded on a regular basis that practicing Reiki is a continuous
process of discovery. I am merely an instrument of God’s will, a facilitator
of the contract of healing between my client and the universe. It is
imperative that I keep my ego out of the way! This is the challenge. As
Reiki practitioners we are witnesses to amazing things. We see the results
of our efforts almost immediately. Who among us hasn’t seen something akin
to a miracle after giving Reiki? The moment we say, “I did this” we have
lost our way. |
